A black and white photograph shows the front side of an old steam locomotive. One person stands on it, with people around him as they work to sand down its wheels from debris after running at speed over small wooden sleepers. The photo was taken during World War I when French soldiers were building a train track near Stlandard for several days in winter. People were working hard wearing very simple uniforms. They all wore helmets or hats made of cloth. Some women were also present.
